Portable Continuous-Wave Radar for Non-contact Sensing and Localization
要:Wireless sensors with embedded control and communication links have the potential to improve the quality of service in healthcare, infrastructure maintenance, and energy conservation. This presentation provides an overview of our research activities on smart radio frequency (RF) sensors aided with advanced technologies such as beamforming, inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR), and flexible electronics. The scope of applications extends to sleep study, fall detection, indoor localization, and civil engineering. Specifically, our recent efforts on smart house, cancer treatment, and structure monitoring will be discussed. In a smart house, the sensors ensure human well-being and energy efficiency by tracking users’ vital signs, location, gait, gestures, and activities. In cancer radiotherapy, we investigate accurate non-contact tumor tracking, which provides a method to dynamically target a tumor with a radiation beam even when the tumor moves due to the respiratory movement of a patient. In structural health monitoring, our RF sensors advance infrastructure maintenance by remotely monitoring structural vibrations and movements, as aging infrastructure remains a national concern with widespread impacts on the quality of our daily lives.

Wireless in the Era of IoT: From Indoor Localization to Ubiquitous Sensing
Wireless is ubiquitous and playing increasingly important roles in our everyday lives. While wireless data communication has achieved a great success, a lot of new applications were proposed in the last few years hosted on Wi-Fi and RFID infrastructures including indoor localization, gesture recognition, respiration sensing and even material identification. Four systems will be introduced in this talk. The first, ArrayTrack (NSDI '13), is an indoor localization system hosted on Wi-Fi infrastructure to achieve an accuracy below 50 cm. ToneTrack (MobiCom '15) is another Wi-Fi based system which breaks the bandwidth limit for time-based localization. TagScan (MobiCom '17) is a material sensing system, which is able to differentiate very similar liquids such as Pepsi and Coke with just commodity RFID device. The latest TagMI system further extends the material sensing range by exploiting the impedance change when the RFID tag is attached to the target.
