报告提要Hundreds of millions of people travel in vehicles every day.  How to improve road safety and efficiency using cyber technologies (such as connected vehicles) is a critical issue in today’s society. We are working on a cyber physical system (CPS) project that addresses some key design and evaluation challenges in advanced cyber-transportation systems.  In this talk, I will outline our plan to overcome major design and evaluation challenges related to traffic safety, and describe preliminary work on how to reduce accidents and in particular collisions by providing drivers with timely, and prioritized information about the road environment and collision warning messages. I will also touch upon our effort to provide infotainment services using integrated cellular and ad-hoc relaying (iCAR) technologies.

特邀讲者Divy Agrawal

Dr. Divyakant Agrawal is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of California at Santa Barbara. His research expertise is in the areas of database systems, distributed computing, data warehousing, and large-scale information systems. From January 2006 through December 2007, Dr. Agrawal served as VP of Data Solutions and Advertising Systems at the Internet Search Company ASK.com. Dr. Agrawal has also served as a Visiting Senior Research Scientist at the NEC Laboratories of America in Cupertino, CA from 1997 to 2009. During his professional career, Dr. Agrawal has served on numerous Program Committees of International Conferences, Symposia, and Workshops and served as an editor of the journal of Distributed and Parallel Databases (1993-2008), and the VLDB journal (2003-2008). He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Distributed and Parallel Databases and on the editorial boards of the ACM Transactions on Database Systems and IEEE Transactions of Knowledge and Data Engineering. He has recently been elected to the Board of Trustees of the VLDB Endowment and elected to serve on the Executive Committee of ACM Special Interest Group SIGSPATIAL. Dr. Agrawal's research philosophy is to develop data management solutions that are theoretically sound and are relevant in practice. He has published approximately 300 research manuscripts in prestigious forums (journals, conferences, symposia, and workshops) on wide range of topics related to data management and distributed systems and has advised more than 30 Doctoral students during his academic career. Recently, Dr. Agrawal has been recognized as an Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) Distinguished Scientist and was inducted as an ACM Fellow in June’2012. He has also been inducted as a Fellow of IEEE in 2012. His current interests are in the area of scalable data management and data analysis in Cloud Computing environments, security and privacy of data in the cloud, and scalable analytics over social networks data and social media.

报告提要:With hundreds of millions of users worldwide, online social networks provide incredible opportunities for social connection, learning, political and social change, and individual entertainment and enhancement in a wide variety of forms. In light of these notable outcomes, understanding influence maximization, diffusion of innovation, and information trends over online social networks are critical research problems. Because many social interactions currently take place in online networks, we now have access to unprecedented amounts of information about social interactions. Prior to the advent of such online networks, investigations about social behavior required resource-intensive activities such as random trials, surveys, and manual data collection to gather even small data sets. Now, massive amounts of information about social networks and social interactions are recorded. This wealth of data (Big Data) can allow us to study social interactions on a scale and at a level of detail that has never before been possible.

We present an integrated approach to conduct data-driven modeling and analysis in online social networks focusing on three key problems: (1) Querying and analysis of online social network datasets; (2) Modeling and analysis of social networks; and (3) Analysis of social media and social interactions in the contemporary media environment. The overarching goals are to generate a greater understanding of social interactions in online networks through data analysis, to develop reliable and scalable models that can predict outcomes of these social processes, and ultimately to create applications that can shape the outcome of these processes.

We start by developing and refining models of information diffusion based on real-world data sets. We next address the problem of finding influential users in this data-driven framework. It is equally important to identify techniques that can slow or prevent the spread of misinformation, and hence algorithms are explored to address this question. A third interest is the process by which a social group forms opinions about an idea or product, and we therefore describe preliminary approaches to create models that accurately capture the opinion formation (i.e., influence) process in online social networks. While questions relating to the propagation of a single news item or idea are important, these information campaigns do not exist in isolation. Therefore, our proposed approach also addresses the interplay of the many information diffusion processes that take place simultaneously in a network and the relative importance of different topics or trends over multiple spatial and temporal resolutions.

His research interests include automatic classification of gender, age, expression, watching status and trajectory of human, as well as virtual reality, photorealistic and non-photorealistic rendering. He is reviewers of ACM and IEEE international conferences and journals (SIGGRAPH ASIA, PG, CGI, VRST, TVC...). He has been invited for academic visit or professional cooperation with Goldman Sachs (Asia), IBM China Research Lab, Thomson (Technicolor) Cooperate Research Beijing.

Dr. Huang’s keynote speech in CCF-YOCSEF Beijing on the topic of “Ideal and hesitation of PHD students in China” in 2009 was quoted 1000+ times by Press and Internet media including Chinese Youth Daily, Xinhuanet, Sina, Sohu and 163.

报告提要:The key visual element in a smart city should be smart display. The advancement in display technology has made people's lives easier and exciting. Nowadays, the display devices are not only pure electronic hardware such as LCD or projectors, but also important carriers of information broadcasting and publishing, as well as platforms for audience to experience the virtual world. Therefore, in addition to the traditional hardware index such as brightness, thickness, thermal etc., the effectiveness, accuracy and attractiveness of the message being displayed and the quality of audience experiences are new targets of display solutions. In recent years, more and more attention has been paid to the intelligence and interactivity of display devices, i.e. automatic content selection for different audience demographics and natural human machine interaction interfaces that makes users immerse into the virtual worlds. Although the potential market growth is huge and the expected return will be high, intelligent and interactive display technology is still under development in a very early industrialization stage both home and abroad, due to big technical challenges. In this report, I will introduce ASTRI's proprietary technology of intelligent and interactive display, including intelligent audience analysis, interactive optical touch, adaptive dynamic control of black light units etc. With the technology, the display device can "see" and "think", in terms of providing tailored content, comfortable brightness and efficient interaction to audiences in front of the display.
