报告题目 (一):Improving the Usability of Heterogeneous Data
内容简介:Big data is now around every corner of our life - data is heterogeneous, of large volume and high rate of change. A very demanding task is how to make the data usable to data consumers. Data cannot make one's life better unless we provide her a way to find her expected 'needle' in such big data ocean. In this talk, I would like to give an overview of my works on improving the usability over heterogeneous data in the last 6 years. In particular, we will talk about the usability and performance issues on structured data (e.g. relational data), semi-structured data (e.g. XML), unstructured data (e.g. text), spatial data, time-series data (e.g. trajectory), multimedia data (e.g. images and videos), and graph data (e.g. social network). Data from different domains is less useful without sharing, so at the end of the talk we bring up the topic of how to enhance information sharing over the social network, for the users by the users.

报告题目 (二):The Holy Grail of keyword search: Interactiveness, Effectiveness and Efficiency
内容简介:In this talk, we will overview some important problems in keyword search over heterogeneous data, and how to utilize information across domains with different types to serve an effective yet efficient exploration of data, lastly how Human Computer Interaction boosts the performance gaining. In particular, we will talk about text + spatial data (in map service platforms), social graph + time + text data (in social network platforms), text + structure (in structured and semi-structured databases).
报告人简介:
Dr. Zhifeng Bao is a tenure track Assistant Professor in School of Engineering & ICT, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology, University of Tasmania, Australia. He is also a faculty member of the Human Interaction Technology Lab of Australia. He received his PhD in computer science from NUS in 2011, and was the only recipient of the Best PhD Thesis Award in School of Computing and was the winner of the Singapore IDA (Infocomm Development Authority) gold medal. He committed himself on the research topic of improving the usability of data, which span across heterogeneous data, including structured data (e.g. relational data), semi-structured data (e.g. XML), unstructured data (e.g. text), spatial data, multimedia data (e.g. images and videos), and graph data (e.g. social network). As an early career researcher, he has co-authored over 50 publications in many reputable journals (including VLDB Journal, IEEE Transactions) and major international conferences (including SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, DASFAA, WWW, CIKM, ER). His works got five best paper nominations, in ICDE 2009 (IEEE International conference on Data Engineering), DASFAA 2012 (International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Application), ASONAM 2013 (IEEE/ACM international conference on Social network analysis and mining), ER 2014 (International conference on conceptual modeling), CIKM 2014 (ACM international conference on Information and knowledge management). He is actively involved in the research community by serving as an invited reviewer for prestigious journals like TKDE, VLDBJ, IPL and JCST, and served on the program committee of several reputable conferences such as DASFAA, ER, VLDB, CIKM, BigComp, DEXA, WAIM, APWEB.
