Sponsored by CCF and organized by CCF TC on Chinese Information Technology, the 9^th International Conference on Natural Language Processing and Chinese Computing (NLPCC 2020) was held in Zhengzhou, Henan on Oct. 16-18, 2020.

Since 2012, NLPCC has been successfully held for 9 years. NLPCC, with short history but rapid growth, has become an important conference in the field of Natural Language Processing. Influenced by Covid, NLPCC2020 is held both online and offline, and attracts many well-known scholars in the field of NLP at home and abroad. There are total 496 people registered, including 372 on-site participants and 124 online, as well as 15 sponsors and exhibitors.

NLPCC tutorials was held on October 14-15 prior to NLPCC2020. Due to the epidemic, tutorials was presented online, and 117 people participated in online tutorials. The program co-chairs of NLPCC tutorials is Professor Qiu Xipeng, Fudan University and Professor Xia Rui, Nanjing University of Technology. There are five presentations in the tutorial, including Dr. Cui Yiming, iFLYTEK, Mr. Tang Duyu, senior researcher, Microsoft Asian Research Institute, Mr. Cui Peng, associate professor, Tsinghua University, Dr. Li Jiwei, co-founder of Shannon.AI, Mr. Wei Zhongyu, associate professor, Fudan University and Wang Meng, assistant professor, Southeast University.

During three days of NLPCC2020 conference, there are four technical seminars in the afternoon on Oct. 16: Explainable AI Seminar hosted by Lenovo Research Institute, Multimodal Natural Language Processing (MMNLP) Seminar hosted by NLPCC Organizer, Seminar hosted by China Industrial Corporation and Seminar hosted by Baidu, and many well-known experts invited to show the advanced technology progress and application cases of NLP.

From October 17 to 18, there were four invited keynote speeches, five presentations from Industry sector, student seminars, evaluation seminars, dozens of oral paper and paper poster etc.

One feature of NLPCC is CCF Natural Language Processing and Chinese Computing Award (CCF-NLP), which is awarded since 2017. Besides the initial two awards (Outstanding Achievement Award and Young Pioneer Award), a new Chinese Computing Award established this year. Professor Liu Kaiying of Shanxi University won Outstanding Achievement Award in 2020; Professor Ao Qi’er of Inner Mongolia University won the 2020 Chinese Computing Award; Dr. Zhao Xin, Renmin University of China and Dr. Huang Shujian, Nanjing University won the 2020 Young Talent Award. At the closing ceremony on 18^th October, the above four awards were presented respectively.
